The Bishop's Visit to St. Nicholas Owen

The Bishop's Visit to St. Nicholas Owen on 2nd October 2011

Dear Friends,
One of our smaller parishes on the Fylde is St Nicholas Owen, Little Thornton which I had the pleasure of visiting and saying Mass there last Sunday morning. During the Mass I confirmed six young people. One had the sense of a closely-knit parish community served so faithfully by Canon Tom Dakin (pictured below with me) who, happily, celebrates his sixtieth anniversary of priestly ordination just before Christmas.

The sense of welcome, warmth and friendship was palpable and exemplified to me as bishop what is best in a faith community. The Mass, fittingly, was followed by refreshments afterwards for which most of the congregation stayed. I came away from Little Thornton reassured in my conviction that the Lord is indeed present among his people as they gather sacramentally on the Sabbath in his memory.
